Is P-Pop the Next K-Pop? Why Popolo Music Group Thinks the Philippines Is Ready

For over two decades, K-pop has dominated the global music stage, shaping not only charts but also fashion, fandom culture, and streaming trends. Now, a new contender is rising from Southeast Asia. P-Pop (Philippine Pop) is being hailed as the next wave of Asian pop—and Popolo Music Group (PMG) is leading the charge.

Founded by Honolulu-born entrepreneur Paul “Pooh” Lunt, PMG has built an international footprint with offices in Manila, Seoul, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Dubai, and Paris. Its mission is clear: to transform the Philippines—long admired for producing powerhouse vocalists—into the world’s next pop capital.

At the center of this vision are digital audition platforms like AuditionKpop.com and PMGaudition.com, which attract more than 300 submissions weekly from aspiring idols worldwide. Those selected join PMG’s six-month program in Manila and Cebu, where training goes beyond vocals and dance to include wellness, branding, and resilience.

What makes PMG confident in P-Pop’s future? Lunt argues that Filipinos are among the best singers and entertainers in Asia. The challenge, he says, has never been talent but infrastructure. By combining discipline, global touring through Popolo Live, and collaborations with artists such as Sarah Geronimo, SB19, and even Shakira, PMG is building the missing bridge.

“K-Pop opened the door,” Lunt explains. “Now it’s time for the Philippines to walk through.”

With its first records set to drop in 2026, PMG believes the subsequent global pop explosion could very well carry a Filipino sound.
